The Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management at Boston University School of Public Health is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Post Doctoral Associate to lead and support multifaceted research activities focused on Medicaid policy, care delivery models, and equity of care. The position will be supervised by Dr. Megan Cole.
Time will be divided primarily between three research directions. The first will use All Payer Claims Data (APCD) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) data to study how the statewide Massachusetts Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model affects quality of care and addresses unmet social needs of patients (e.g., food insecurity, housing insecurity); this focuses on maternal health, mental health, and chronic disease populations. The second uses national data on Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to understand policy-level and organizational drivers of quality of care, access to care, and racial equity of care. The third will use Medicaid claims data, EHR data, and patient survey data to evaluate how an equity-focused telehealth delivery model affects quality of care, utilization of services, patient experience, and equity of care for Medicaid patients served by FQHCs. There will also be opportunity to become a member of the BU Medicaid Policy Lab (MPL), including collaboration on research activities and participation MPL meetings. Finally, there will be dedicated time for the candidate to develop independent research and participate in professional development and mentoring activities that best support the career goals of the candidate.
The primary responsibilities will include leading statistical analyses (25%), leading and supporting manuscript writing (35%), data management (10%), supporting project coordination activities (10%), and leading other independent research that otherwise advances the candidate’s career (20%).

- Experience leading work with large health care data sets, including claims data
- Advanced statistical software and programming skills (Stata or SAS)
- Expertise using regression, causal inference, and econometric methods
- Experience leading and writing peer reviewed manuscripts, including excellent writing skills
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Self-motivated and able to work well independently, while also working well with teams
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and efficiently manage time
- PhD or equivalent in health policy, health services research, health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field
- 2+ years of professional experience in the field of health policy, evaluation, or data analysis
- Interest in Medicaid policy, quality of care, equity of care, and/or safety-net providers
- Familiarity with diagnostic codes, procedure codes, and/or HEDIS measures
- Experience leading teams or supervising staff
There is currently a minimum of 12 months of grant funding for this position.
