Employee Services provides the CU community with excellent services from recruitment to retirement. This office provides technical expertise while administering benefits, professional development, payroll, individual tax management, and strategic HR programs. The functional areas of Employee Services include Payroll, Technologies, Benefits, Retirement, Financial Education, Learning and Development, International Tax and Human Resources.

Position Description

The Benefits Enrollment Processor manages the daily analysis of benefits transactions by accurately entering, verifying, and correcting a variety of data in the Human Capital Management (HCM) and Enrollment Management Access Database as it relates to University of Colorado (CU) payroll and benefit programs. 

This position is required to resolve problems regarding benefits enrollment data and is responsible for ensuring that employees, retirees, surviving spouses, and students are enrolled properly in their benefit plans and charged appropriate deductions for their enrollment.  The Benefits Enrollment Processor is expected to contact customers and third-party vendors as part of their daily responsibilities.

This position is responsible for incorporating new benefit plans, eligibility rules, and initiating and managing Open Enrollment activities as they pertain to the to the Benefits Administration (BenAdmin) system.  The Benefits Enrollment Processor makes recommendations for BenAdmin system improvements including configuration changes and will participate in corresponding testing efforts.

This position reports to the Benefits Enrollment Manager and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff System. 

Duties & Responsibilites

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Acts as an expert user of BenAdmin in Enrollment Management and determines the effectiveness of existing and new business processes
    • Documents current and new processes
    • Works to identify opportunities for efficiencies and system enhancements
    • Communicates changes to affected audiences [Benefits Counselors, Payroll HCM Data, University Information Services (UIS), etc.]
  • Enters and verifies a variety of data into the HCM database and Enrollment Management application system as it relates to University of Colorado payroll and benefit programs 
  • Tracks and verifies quality of data entry via established reports/queries and resolves issues when necessary
  • Makes recommendations to proactively identify issues and systematically stop them from recurring
  • Provides payroll support for biweekly, monthly, and off-cycle periods to ensure accurate benefits adjustments and deductions.
  • Works closely with payroll processors to ensure timely refund/addition adjustments using payroll reports and payroll module (CU Time) to enter and validate accuracy  
  • Interprets rules and guidelines of enrollment for benefits programs and aligns them to the rules with which HCM operates to determine the correct method of enrollment
  • Creates an adjustment form, using Microsoft Access, to refund/deduct insurance premiums
  • Runs reports on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly timeframe to identify discrepancies in HCM 
  • Creates adjustment forms with all necessary information and attaches the necessary documentation to support the adjustment for submission to the correct Employee Service (ES) unit for entry into the monthly payroll cycle
  • Understands and interprets the eligibility, enrollment, and compliance rules for a variety of benefit programs (health, life, retirement etc.). Aligns the eligibility with the rules in which the HCM system operates to ensure correct enrollment based on employee type
  • Provides support to special projects, including, but not limited to audit research and compliance initiatives
  • Serves as a liaison between Benefits and the Payroll, Accounting, and UIS departments
  • Perform other duties as assigned

System Administration, which also houses the Office of the President, is located in the uptown neighborhood of Denver with a few smaller offices located on the campuses.  However, this position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule.  Many of our departments support the educational and research missions of the four University of Colorado campuses, but System Administration is not considered a campus. What we offer:

Salary: The salary range has been established at $46,000-$56,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education (professional experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the educational requirement)
  • One (1) year of professional experience in a data analysis, benefits enrollment, human resources, and/or other roles related to the work performed
Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a data analysis, benefits enrollment, human resources, and/or other roles related to the work performed
  • Previous experience working with a human resources information system (HRIS) database
  • Previous working experience administering employee benefits
