Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, UCLA

The BALBOA project of the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar. BALBOA is a NASA-funded balloon project for imaging daytime auroras and investigating dayside solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling. The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in space physics, or related fields such as aeronomy, geosciences, physics, and astronomy.

We seek candidates who are interested in developing imager hardware and software and have good knowledge of Python and C++ programming languages. Candidates who have experience with flight instrument and/or scientific ballooning are especially appreciated. The candidate should have good communication skills; the ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team; and a willingness to develop a career in space exploration.

The initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, with the possibility of renewal for an additional 12 months subject to satisfactory performance. Salary will follow standards for postdoctoral scholars and will scale with the applicant's experience.
