This position will work within the IT Research Support Solutions group and will be responsible for maintenance of the computer hardware attached to research instrumentation on campus. Investigation of existing research hardware and cataloguing details are a large component of the job. Training is available for the successful candidate for this position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Explain policies and procedures to advise and assist others, team and/or management
• Provide input into new policies and identifying gaps in existing policies
• Solve problems in a highly complex and/technical environment
• Provide technical expertise to assist researchers
• Use good judgement to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems for attached computing research instrumentation
• Plan, construct and perform maintenance on computer hardware attached to research instrumentation
• Act as a technical liaison between the University and instrument manufacturers and/or servicers.
• Develop and maintain vendor relationships for researching, provisioning, acquiring research hardware
• Provide solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or occur infrequently and do not have a structured workflow for resolution.
• Provide support and serve as an information resource to researchers related to various research instrumentation attached desktop and peripheral systems including Windows and Linux systems.
• Provide applications / software support by: providing specialized support for third tier support on approved software and applications, and integrate different computing systems if possible.
• Support the testing and evaluation activities that are necessary to support various research devices.
• Install, maintain and remove all computer hardware attached to instrumentation used to conduct research (e.g. range telemetry, cameras, data collection systems, etc.)
• Work in tandem with departmental resources to keep computer equipment operational and functional.
• Ensure that attached computer hardware is current and patches are deployed, and in compliance with campus and IT (including IT security) policies.
• Address workstation - instrument interface issues
• Handle service requests, troubleshoot issues, work with re-imaging systems, back up of data, and work with instrumentation contractors.
• Handle inventory management, equipment management, and analytical entries using a data repository for capturing key information about research instrumentation supported by ITRSS.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree is desired.
  • Familiarity and experience working with the following software and operating systems:
    • Chromeleon
    • LabVIEW
    • Bruker TopSpin
    • Matlab
    • Various versions of Windows
    • Linux
