Job Description Summary

Wake Forest Athletics is currently seeking applicants to serve as a Sports Dietitian Fellow for the football team. This position is a 1-year position that will assist the Sports Nutrition Department in program development and will serve as the assistant dietitian for Wake Forest Football. This individual, under the supervision of the Director of Sports Nutrition, will serve as a contact, resource, and liaison to execute date-to-day nutrition operations for football as well as assist in providing nutrition education, counseling, and game day nutrition. Job Description

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist Director of Sports Nutrition with daily duties and on-going projects for optimal fueling of the Wake Forest Football Team including 1:1 nutrition assessments, team talks and education, supplement education, meal timing, hydration needs, performance plate construction, and pre-fuel, intra-fuel, and post-fueling strategies
  • Facilitate the preparation and delivery of pre- and post-practice nutritional needs, recovery shakes, meals and general nutritional needs for our team
  • Management of the operations of football nutrition. This includes product inventory, ordering, receiving, unloading, and distribution of goods
  • Forecast weekly needs for football-specific fueling station
  • Create educational handouts via Canva as well as help with #FuelinTheDeacs social media content related to nutrition education as well as sport-specific for football
  • Work with our recruiting staff and assist with the recruiting operations
  • Conduct body composition testing via DXA including analysis and explanation of results
  • Assist with all home game nutrition needs, including but not limited to the night before games, pre-, intra-, and post-game operations. The fellow will be expected to be present for every home competition upon hire
  • Ability to travel with team for games and assist in all travel nutrition-related needs including but not limited to snack bags, performance menus for the hotel, game time fueling set up, halftime fueling, post-game meals
  • Assist operations in the meal and snack menus and ordering. This includes but is not limited to: pre- and post-practice snacks, catered snacks, grab-n-go snacks, post-game meals. Help with coordination and supervision of meals as needed
  • Responsible for the weight room fueling station: inventory, ordering, set-up, clean-up, stocking, and continuous replenishment of snacks, shakes, and hydration products throughout the day
  • Assist in the management of student volunteers/student workers that work with football and the CMNZ
  • Participate as a positive, integrative team member of the Wake Forest Sports Nutrition Staff
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Nutrition

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field
  • At least 1 year of sports nutrition experience working in collegiate or professional athletics

Required Credentials/Certifications/Licensure:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD or RD)
  • Obtain licensure upon hire as is required by the state of North Carolina (must obtain prior to 1st day of work)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in sports nutrition, exercise physiology, sports psychology or other health related field
  • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) within 1st year of hire
  • Working knowledge of ACC conference, NCAA, and USADA rules and regulations

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven ability to multi-task, work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Excellent time and priority management, organizational, and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work a non-standard work-week which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, non-traditional work hours, and overnight travel as needed
  • Ability to gain and maintain a working knowledge of rules and regulations of the Wake Forest University, ACC Conference, NCAA and United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) regarding nutritional supplements, banned drugs and restricted substances
  • Ability and willingness to comply with disclosure regulations relative to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

Benefits:

This is a year-long hourly paid position. Pay is provided based on a 40-hour work week and received bi-monthly. Additional benefits include: Gear provided by the football equipment staff and nutrition department as well as meals or snacks provided to football. The position does not provide additional benefits such as health or dental insurance.
