Job Summary

The Student Research Assistant will work with the faculty supervisor. Under the supervision of a regular faculty member conducting the research project, the Student Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the faculty supervisor in a variety of non-administrative tasks which may include preparing resources, equipment, materials for the research, documenting results, in support of the research activities. Research projects should ideally lead to an academic publication, scholarly conference, and be directly related to the student’s area of study. The research project is intended to provide the opportunity to learn proper research procedures and techniques. The faculty supervisor will provide ongoing feedback and an assessment of progress at the conclusion of the assistantship.

Job Breakdown

Research and collect data through complex techniques and procedures, library research, structured interviews or other project specific methodology. (30%) Interprets, synthesizes and analyzes data. (10%) Schedules, organizes and reports on status of research activities. (10%) Plans and modifies research techniques, procedures, tests, equipment or software management. (10%) Writes and edits materials for publication and presentation. (20%) Meets with the faculty supervisor on a regular basis to maintain ongoing communication regarding the quality of the assistant’s performance. (10%) Attend mandatory trainings and workshops as necessary (10%)

Required Qualifications

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.

Preferred Qualifications

Self-motivation and a high level of responsibility to complete tasks in a timely manner and make significant progress without direct supervision.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Developed research skills.

Ability to learn new software and research techniques as needed.

Flexibility in adjusting to new work related requirements as they arise.

Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in coursework.

Strong computer skills especially with Microsoft Office, internet, and electronic media.
