Position Summary:  The UX Design Graduate Studies Program Chair is responsible for all aspects of the administration of the UX Design program, which is a graduate level program.  The program is delivered in two modalities:   online and face-to-face in an Executive Weekend format. The Graduate Studies Program Chair provides vision, leadership, and sound management principles to ensure the academic success, retention and engagement of students.   The Graduate Studies Program Chair collaborates with the Dean of Academic Affairs and other campus staff to ensure excellence in instructional delivery and program continuity, as well as student success, retention, and satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides leadership to program faculty, ensuring a quality educational experience for students
  • Identifies, hires and trains program faculty
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure student success 
  • Ensures training and professional development of program faculty
  • Completes faculty observations and provides coaching and feedback
  • Collaborates with organizational leadership and the curriculum department to maintain program curriculum and provide cohesive, consistent quality instruction
  • Proactively monitors and mentors’ students, providing support that results in persistence to graduation
  • Monitors student academic performance and develops effective interventions as required
  • Effectively resolves student concerns or complaints
  • Coordinate and/or participate in new student orientation, graduation and other campus events
  • Assists in securing community leaders, discipline professionals, and employers to serve on the Program Advisory Board
  • Facilitates Program Advisory Board meetings
  • Participates in professional development activities
  • Maintains membership in professional organizations
    • Teaches course load based on business and scheduling needs
  • Other duties as required

  • Education:

    • Master’s degree in interaction design, HCI, human factors, graphic design, interactive design, or related discipline is required; doctorate degree preferred 


    Experience: 

    • Minimum of four years’ work experience in digital design or related field
    • Prior teaching experience required
    • Prior leadership or management experience required
    • Background in digital design, with strong experience in UI design, UX, IxD, and HTML/CSS/JavaScript
    • Ability to teach data-driven design techniques, information structures and design, and end-user functionality and research
    • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary user-centered design methodologies such as user research, participatory design, prototyping, and user testing.
    • Proficiency in:  Sketch, InVision, GitHub, Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud, Bootstrap 4, Prototyping, Storyboarding and Wireframing
    • Professional experience in coding HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript, and back-end development a plus

    Physical and Mental Requirements: 

    Physical Requirements:  This job requires normal physical mobility, including the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  Normal hand-eye coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and lift up to 40 pounds, is also required.

     

    Mental Requirements:  This job requires the ability to read, recall, write and understand information.  This job also requires the ability to work under moderate pressure and to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

     

    Environment:  This job is normally performed in a clean, well-lighted, heated and cooled office area/classroom
