Open Date:

Description:

The Ashbaugh group at Tulane University is seeking applications for a post-doctoral research associate with expertise in conducting molecular simulations of assembly processes in aqueous solution. Specifically, the group is conducting collaborative research on the association between anionic guests and cavitand hosts in aqueous solution as well as on the adsorption of organic acids on functionalized silica surfaces. Our research on host-guest association has impacts on the understanding of ionic specific interactions in aqueous solution that plays a significant role not just in supramolecular assembly, but in biological processes regulated by distinct ions and in understanding the molecular underpinnings of the Hoffmeister effect. Our research on carboxylic acid solutions, on the other hand, is relevant to the purification of the products of biofuel production via low energy surface adsorption processes.

Qualifications:

Candidates for this position are expected to hold a doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field with expertise in conducting molecular simulations in a high-performance computing environment. The successful applicant will have experience working with molecular dynamics simulation packages like GROMACS, LAMMPS, or similar research grade simulation programs. The applicant will also have experience with analyzing the results of these simulations using relevant statistical thermodynamic tools. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate publication of research in the open literature.

Application Instructions:

Candidates must provide the following materials for submission:  CV and Three Confidential Letters of Recommendation.
