Position Summary

The Office of Testing Services, under the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, supports and enhances student success by providing innovative and high quality test administration for SDSU students and off-campus constituents. Testing Services is responsible for administering the University paper and pencil testing and computer-based testing programs; maintenance of a six-month backup file of many of the University-wide tests; consultation with administration, faculty, staff and students on matters related to tests or testing; test-related research; scoring and analysis of SDSU tests and select commercial exams; and providing other test-related services as the need arises.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Testing Services, the Assistant Test Coordinator is responsible for setting-up and administering exams in the computer-based test center while maintaining a high level of test security and confidentiality. The Coordinator is an active proctor, primarily watching test candidates six to eight hours each day. The Coordinator assists in preparing test materials for weekend testing and covering the front reception area of Testing Services as needed. The Coordinator interacts with the general public, students, staff and faculty to ensure that policies and guidelines for administering exams for all test agencies are explained and followed at all times.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2022, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Standard work hours are Tuesday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. OR Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required

Certification for all test agencies utilizing the SDSU computer-based testing center (CBT).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possesses test administrator certification for computer-based test (CBT) agencies and maintains annual certification to stay current with updated policies and procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer problems and contact appropriate technical assistance.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while administering various test programs at one time.
  • Proven excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask.
  • Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broader range of technology, systems, and packages.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects.
  • Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work a Tuesday – Saturday work schedule

Specialized Skills

  • Must have demonstrated experience of being detail oriented.
  • Must have demonstrated experience of multi-tasking in a fast paced work environment.
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Excel to create and maintain spreadsheets.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,352 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,352 - $5,639 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
