Job Information This Associate Professor position is a Clinician Educator who will also serve as “Vice Chair for Clinical Operations and Quality” and “Medical Director of the Family Medicine Clinic.” They will oversee the delivery of healthcare in the Family Medicine Clinic (FMC) by utilizing the principles of patient and family-centered care, population health, and evidence-based medicine. Ensure sufficient access to FMC services as well as ensure the scope of services provided meet the primary care needs of the patient population. Ensure adequate training and monitoring of providers on current coding and billing standards. Lead and assist in improving clinic workflow, scheduling, and productivity.

The person in this position will be a member of the teaching faculty of the Department of Family Medicine and regularly participate in clinical and didactic educational activities for residents and medical students. Provide comprehensive primary care for a private panel of patients.

Minimum Requirements

Education:MD or DO. Residency trained in Family Medicine. Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. Eligible for licensure in Georgia and credentialing at Augusta University Health System.

Experience: Practicing physician with a minimum of 5 years active practice experience and leadership experience in the clinical arena. Knowledge of the organization and operations of an integrated healthcare system including: information systems, medical staff, and community relations. Evidence of on-going education in clinical management and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications Education: MBA and/or MHA

Experience:At least 3 years as leader of a clinic or larger medical facility; At least 3 years on faculty of a medical school and/or residency program; Lean Six Sigma training.

Skills: Involvement in Population Health, Workflow Improvements, ACO, and Quality Improvement efforts demonstrated by improved metrics of success; Performing and supervising clinical quality improvement; Teaching coding and billing.

About Us The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) in the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University is seeking clinician educators to support its strategic expansion of teaching, service, and scholarship programs in primary care and Family Medicine. This expansion is in response to anticipated growth in the university’s UME and Family Medicine GME programs as well as the Augusta University Health System’s investment in primary care and Family Medicine in a variety of academic and service settings. The DFM’s Clinician Educators provide academic support in all years of MCG’s curriculum. Faculty course involvement includes preclinical electives and interdisciplinary required courses and a six-week Family Medicine distributed clerkship. The department also sponsors hospital and ambulatory, research, public and population health, and vulnerable population electives.

The DFM has an ACGME accredited Allopathic Family Medicine Residency Program, an ACGME accredited 1+2 rural track residency program, and a concurrent AOA accredited Osteopathic Family Medicine residency component. The residency program is also supported by teaching affiliations with the local not-for-profit University Health Care System along with other regional partners.

Clinical teaching and services occur concurrently in the Family Medicine Center (FMC) and at Augusta University Medical Center within the AU Health System as well as other affiliated local and regional clinical sites. The FMC is recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. Patient-and Family-Centered Care concepts are the guiding principles for new clinical program development in the university’s academic health center as exemplified by its Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
