Position Information: DescriptionThe Department of Civil Engineering at the University of North Dakota (UND) is inviting applicants for its 9-month instructor position.

The UND Civil Engineering program offers Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) and these graduate degrees:

Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MS)Master of Engineering (M.Engr)Combined BSCE and MSCombined BSCE and MEngrPh.D. in Civil Engineering

Almost all the courses offered for the BSCE and graduate degrees are delivered in both on-campus and online formats.

The department also hosts the Graduate Program in Environmental Engineering, offering Certificate, MS, M.Engr, and Ph.D. Degrees in Environmental Engineering. Students in these programs are from multidisciplinary backgrounds. For the list of all courses offered please visit:

Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant must have a demonstrated dedication to excellence in engineering education to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses to a diverse student population in civil engineering department.  The successful applicant will have the following primary responsibilities and duties:

Instruction in a wide range of civil and environmental engineering undergraduate courses Teaching three courses in the fall and three courses in the Spring, on average, in civil engineering, both on-campus and at-a-distance, potentially including both classroom and laboratory settingsMentoring students in course/career planning and fulfilling graduation requirements;Helping with recruiting activities Communicating effectively in English with students, families, faculty, staff and other professional colleagues in person and at-a-distance (phone, email, etc.)Utilizing computer hardware and software to carry out teaching and service responsibilities to the civil engineering departmentOperating laboratory equipment and instrumentation found in civil engineering laboratoriesParticipating in department, college, university, and professional service activities.

Required Competencies

• The successful applicant will have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Effective teaching and pedagogy skills appropriate to the position.

Minimum Requirements

• M.S. degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.College-level teaching experience (graduate teaching experience is acceptable).Industrial experience in civil engineering generally.Licensure as a professional engineer (P.E.) or commitment to obtaining licensure within two years of employment 

Minimum Hiring Salary$65,000 starting salary

Work Schedule/Start DateTypical work schedule is 8 AM-5 PM Monday through Friday. Expected start date is January 2022.
