Reporting to the Central Michigan University's ("CMU") Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer ("CIO"), the Executive Director Enterprise Applications will assist in developing and leading strategy, implementation, and operations relating to CMU's enterprise applications. With an emphasis on operational excellence, the Executive Director Enterprise Applications will provide the leadership, project management excellence, and change management expertise necessary to ensure that CMU's Office of Information Technology has the proper processes, systems and technologies to optimize the information technology environment and to realize the full potential of ongoing investments in IT systems and services. Central to this role is building positive and lasting relationships between units within the Office of Information Technology ("OIT") and between OIT and its other campus stakeholders. He/she should have a track record of competency in the field of applications development and support, with eight to 10 years of relevant experience, including four years in a significant leadership role. The ideal candidate is a thought leader, a consensus builder, and an integrator of people and processes. As the leader of the applications group, he or she must also be able to coordinate disparate drivers, constraints, and personalities, while maintaining objectivity and a strong understanding of the importance to CMU of its applications portfolio. Supervising multiple managers and overseeing a staff of 35-40, the Executive Director Enterprise Applications position requires a visionary leader with sound knowledge of business management and a solid background in applications management. He/she will proactively work with CMU business units to develop, implement, and monitor a strategic, comprehensive application strategy and portfolio that ensures that CMU's applications meet ongoing and evolving academic, business and IT requirements.~Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a technology-related field or equivalent work- or education-related experience.
~Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT positions with increasing levels of responsibility. Within these, a minimum of 6 years should be in application support and development and a minimum of 4 years should be in successful direct management in a significant leadership role.
~Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
~Demonstrated knowledge of CRM.
~Demonstrated knowledge of ERP functionality including financial, HR, data structures and reporting.
~Fully knowledgeable of the systems development life cycle, structured analysis, design and programming techniques, programming languages, file access methods, web-based tools/solutions, system utilities and development tools, application software packages, and packages used in development or support of production systems.
~Proven track record and experience in successfully executing programs that meet the objectives of excellence in an applications environment.
~Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high- stress situations.
~Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
~General knowledge and understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Payment Card Industry/Data Security Standard (PCI).
~Excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.
~Project management skills: financial/budget management, scheduling, and resource management.
~Extensive experience with change management processes.
~Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve tactical and strategic goals.
~Successful experience with contract and vendor negotiations.
~High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and an appropriate level of judgment and maturity.
~High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision.
