Position Description:

The Department of Engineering Technology at Texas State University is seeking a tenure track assistant professor in the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) Program. CIM became an undergraduate degree program at Texas State University in 2008 and is one of only five such programs in the Nation. This innovative program of study is drawn from the areas of construction management, civil engineering, business, and industrial concrete production and practices. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin in the Spring semester 2022. All positions are subject to availability of funds. The selected candidate will be expected to excel as an instructor and teach several undergraduate/graduate courses from topical areas such as concrete properties and testing, concrete construction methods and systems, prevention and diagnosis of concrete problems, construction materials and processes, and other construction industry related courses. In addition, the candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program with external funding and publish research findings relevant to the concrete industry and appropriate for an emerging research institution. The candidate will also be expected to travel periodically with CIM students and faculty to academic and research conferences, student competitions, and industry trade shows. Along with the other CIM faculty, the candidate will represent program and departmental interests to the local and national concrete industry, the CIM National Steering Committee (NSC), and CIM programs at other universities. Further, the candidate will cooperate with colleagues in program development, collaborative research efforts, curriculum initiatives, conducting learning outcomes assessment, maintaining accreditation, and providing career counseling and academic advising to CIM majors. The candidate could possibly serve as faculty advisor for the student chapter of ACI, and engage in departmental and university service activities. In addition to CIM, the Department of Engineering Technology offers undergraduate degrees in Construction Science and Management and Engineering Technology. At the graduate level, the Master of Science in Engineering Management degree is offered with specializations in manufacturing management and industrial management. The department also offers a new Master of Construction Science Management degree that can be completed entirely online.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in any of the following disciplines; Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science or Chemistry (with a materials emphasis), or a closely related field that focuses on concrete, aggregates, and cementitious materials.
  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a field closely related to the concrete and construction materials industry from an ACCE or ABET accredited program.
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Professional licensure or certification (or the qualifications to secure professional licensure), field or laboratory experience in the concrete and cement industry.
  • Research interests in one or more of the following areas: concrete materials, concrete durability, concrete pavements, modeling of concrete performance and advanced concrete and cementitious materials, engineering economics, supply chain management and inventory control, project management, and other business practices in the concrete and construction materials industry.
