Position Summary:

New hires for this position will be eligible for a $750 sign-on bonus at the completion of 180 days of employment

Maintains and cares for Middlebury College athletic fields and provides services required for athletic functions.

Essential Functions:

General Responsibilities:

*Schedules and coordinates daily work assignments. Often works independently.
*Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
*Interacts appropriately with customers, i.e. students, faculty and staff.
*Assists in snow removal from steps, roads and walkways as assigned.
*Prepares athletic fields for games, including marking fields and equipment setup.
*Maintains campus landscape by mowing lawns, pruning and trimming, etc.
*Sets up and operates irrigation systems.
*Fertilizes, aerates, top dresses, overseeds lines and mows athletic fields.
*Repairs and maintains equipment.
*Responsible for cleaning up any blood spills/accidents using prescribed procedures.
Assists General Services.
Performs associated Facilities Services maintenance work as requested including, but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting.
*Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
*Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Middlebury College and departmental policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational background preferred. On-the-job training and training in proper use of equipment provided.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of safe working and lifting procedures and techniques.Good organizational and interpersonal skills required. Must have valid driver’s license. Pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain. Must be able to lift 10-30 lbs. frequently each day and up to 100lbs. occasionally. Must be able to push and pull up to 150 lbs. frequently. Must be able to work weekends and irregular daily shifts as part of a regular or rotational weekly shift. Some holiday work may also be required. Interest in athletics helpful.

Experience:

Previous experience with grounds work and use of commercial grounds maintenance equipment.
