THE POSITION:
Pasadena City College is hiring one full-time, tenure-track Personal Counselor with an emphasis on providing personal counseling to students with emotional, social, learning, and career challenges. The position will commence with the 2021-2022 academic year.

    THE ASSIGNMENT:
    Twelve Months, 100% - Tenure-track position.The assignment may require some evening coverage as part of load. The 40 hours per week assignment consists of 5 hours for professional development activities, which can include campus committee involvement and professional growth.


    SALARY INFORMATION:
    Anticipated salary range for this position will be between $7,471.29 - $11,097.09

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides brief psychological counseling to students with emotional, social, learning, and career challenges
  • Provides violence risk assessments of, and psychological counseling to, at-risk students
  • Participates as a member of the PCC Crisis Prevention and Response Team (C-PART);
  • Serves as a consultant to faculty, staff, and administrators on psychological factors and problems which may influence the behavior, motivation, and learning processes of students
  • Collaborates with psychiatry and other mental health services on campus and in the community to ensure the continuity of appropriate and necessary care
  • Provides consultation services to the Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSPS&S) to help serve students with psychological disabilities
  • Provides ongoing support to the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) in the form of case consultation and crisis intervention services
  • Assists Student Services in managing students requiring disciplinary attention
  • Participates in the development and presentation of in-service psycho-educational programs related to Student Services
  • Represents the Personal Counseling Department on college-wide committees and at community and professional meetings
  • Serves as a liaison to community-based services providing mental health-related services for purposes of effective referrals
  • Strictly adheres to the ethical principles of psychologists as promulgated by the American Psychological Association and the laws and regulations relating to the practice of psychology in California
  • Serves as a supervisor for pre-and post-doctoral psychology interns
  • Serves on the C.A.R.E.S. Team (Caring AND Responding to Employee and Students)
  • Perform other duties as assigned


    PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and commitment to Student Equity
  • Ability to work in a multiethnic environment with students who have a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Knowledge of current issues, trends, and best practices usedin student services in a collegiate setting
  • Knowledge of specific approaches, theories, and strategies to address disparities in student success and access to higher education for particular groups
  • Familiarity counseling special populations attending community college such as; student athletes, undocumented students, LGBTQ+, and formally incarcerated or system impacted students
  • Ability to facilitate groups and workshops
  • Demonstrated passion for, and experience with, counseling and teaching a diverse student body with a broad spectrum of socioeconomic means and academic preparation

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • The college president will conduct a final interview and recommend a candidate to the Board of Trustees
  • Successful completion of a physical examination is required
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of background check including Live Scan and Tuberculosis (TB) assessment/screening




    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from a regionally accredited institution

    AND

    A valid license as a psychologist issued by the California State Board of Psychology

    AND

    Three years of post-doctorate experience offering brief psychological counseling, psychological assessments, and crisis intervention services
    Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript. Some degrees may require equivalency. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide documentation to support equivalent qualifications.

    DESIRABLEQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Competence in brief (short-term, solution-focused) psychological counseling utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Perspective
  • Demonstrated competence in brief (short-term, solution-focused) psychological counseling utilizing a Cognitive Behavior Therapy perspective
  • Experience in the diagnosis and treatment of serious mental illness (in-patient and outpatient community mental health) and/or psychological servicesin a higher education institution
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with one or more of the following populations: Students of color, LGBTQ, Veterans, low income, first generation college students, Foster Youth, and other historically underrepresented and underserved populations.
  • Experience as a coordinator or director of a mental health program
  • Post-Doctoral experience (and certification, if available) in trauma informed therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and/or threat assessment.
  • Proficiency in a second language common to PCC students (e.g. Spanish, Chinese, or other language)
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students
  • Demonstrated commitment equity, social justice and cultural humility
  • Sensitivity to diversity issues in a collegiate setting. Demonstrated cultural competency by understanding marginalized students and effective methods of service
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and other members of the campus community
  • Experience with Student Learning Outcomes and assessment methods
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
