Assistant Professor of Architecture
Department Description:
The Architecture Program is part of the Department of Art, Architecture and Art History. Our design studios emphasize critical thinking and the development of the architectural imagination, informed by an expansive curriculum in the history and theory of architecture. The program is also organically tied to the Visual Arts and Art History majors that form the department. The department fosters a very active undergraduate research program that especially engages first generation and underrepresented students.
Detailed Description:
The Department of Art, Architecture and Art History of the University of San Diego invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin September 2022.
This faculty position is aligned with the Horizon Project that seeks to increase the diversity of faculty and students at USD.
The successful candidate will teach architectural design studios, supervise undergraduate student research, develop lectures and seminars, and help advance the discipline through research and practice. In addition, they will contribute to shaping the architecture program's future, as well as engage in university service.
The qualified candidate will also have opportunities to participate in the following research and teaching clusters as part of the College of Arts and Sciences multi-year hiring plan:
Job Requirements:
We seek candidates with a proven record of excellence in architectural design pedagogy, of mentoring students from underrepresented groups within the context of liberal arts education, and of contributing to the discipline through architectural practice and research.
Candidates must have an M.Arch, or a B.Arch with a Masters Degree (M.Des, MS, MA or equivalent), and 3+ years of experience teaching architectural design. Expected markers of excellence in design and design pedagogy include national and international awards, publications, exhibitions, student work portfolios, and samples of original design studio briefs.
