General SummaryExtra Help Ushers assist those in attendance at all home ISU sporting events, some U-High sporting events, and other events that occur in ISU facilities.
Duties include:
• Greeting patrons
• Checking & scanning tickets
• Directing people to their assigned seats and assist with seating questions or help other customer service concerns
• Answering questions
• Assisting people in finding exits, restrooms, and concession stands
• Help point out disorderly or unruly patrons
• Provide assistance with patrons’ special needs, such as helping those with wheelchairs
• Guide patrons to exits or provide other instructions or assistance in case of emergency
• Maintain order and ensure adherence to safety rules
• Verify credentials of patrons desiring entrance into press box or other restricted areas and permit only authorized persons to enter
• Examine tickets or passes to verify authenticity, using criteria such as color or date issued.
Willingness and ability to work varied shifts.
Desired QualificationsPrevious customer service experience and familiarity with ISU athletic events.

Special Instructions for ApplicantsExtra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
