Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Prospect Management, the Assistant Director of Prospect Management is responsible for the effective placement and management of prospects through the fundraising cycle. The assistant director supports and guides the fundraising efforts of the University by working closely with advancement staff to provide strategic insights into prospect and portfolio management in order to build and maintain constituent relationships. This position can work remotely from the New England region.

Essential Functions

  • Incorporate new prospects into the prospect management pipeline and assist in the referral of prospects to central and constituency units through partnership with the prospect research team.
  • Categorize prospects and donors in terms of capacity and interest, and determine when they should be referred to development officers for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Review prospect holding pools to ensure correct placement, and provide recommendations as needed.
  • Build fundraiser portfolios and track proposal entry with the Director.
  • Develop relationships with fundraisers to aid in the identification of potential prospects to support initiatives and customize portfolios to meet fundraiser needs.
  • Partner with managers to direct and monitor development officers' progress in prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Provide analysis and interpretation of prospect and donor information to facilitate communication regarding prospects.
  • Prepare and distribute actionable prospect management information to be shared with development officers, their supervisors, and Advancement Leadership. Typically on a quarterly basis.
  • Remain current on prospect management, research trends and best practices.

Other Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Prospect Management.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Over three (3) years of experience in fundraising, development research or data research/analysis.
  • Knowledge of fundraising fundamentals, and specifically prospect management and prospect tracking principles and methods.
  • Experience with large databases and data extractions methodologies (e.g. SQL).
  • Ability to keep accurate records and complete timely reports.
  • Knowledge of process, ethics, and policies of professional fundraising.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, co-workers, and constituents.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to manipulate large datasets. Experience with industry reporting platforms (e.g. Tableau).

Typical office environment.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Required to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
