The Barbara Davis Center has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant.  This is a full-time (40 hours per week), entry-level Professional Research Assistant (PRA) Position at the Barbara Davis Center (BDC) for Diabetes.  The successful candidate will work in the Research Division of the BDC in the laboratory of Dr. Holger Russ on projects exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms that result in the onset of autoimmune diabetes in humans. The laboratory primarily uses primary human tissues and pluripotent stem cell derived tissues in conjugation with genome engineering technology to elucidate novel ideas and concepts in the diabetes field.

Position Emphasis:

The position is for a PRA to work on in vitro and in vivo experiments and will be responsible for assisting with  analysis of cell culture work. In addition, the individual in this position will be responsible for maintaining lab inventories.

Examples of typical work that will be performed are:

  • Maintenance of a laboratory inventory. Ordering and restocking reagents for the laboratory.
  • Molecular cloning for genome engineering experiments.
  • Molecular and histological analysis of tissues and cells, including genomic DNA isolation, PCR, RNA isolation, gene expression analysis by qPCR and NGS sequencing, protein localization or quantification by immunofluorescence analysis, Western blotting, or ELISA assay and flow based assays.

  • Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $36,500 to $40,500.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related fields.
    • Specific work experience in molecular, biochemical or cell biology techniques.
     

    Required:  Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire

    PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience in human (pluripotent) cell culture.
    • Working knowledge of molecular cloning and/or analysis techniques.
    • Experience with ImageJ/FIJI, the Adobe suite, FlowJo and/or Prism.
    • Intention to gain lab experience prior to attending graduate school
