Under the general direction of the Director, Education Commons, the Associate Director, Client Experience and Learning Technologies provides senior leadership, mentorship, inspiration and motivation to Education Commons team by living our core values and leading by example toward our aspirational goal of Inspiring the pursuit of discovery at OISE and beyond.

As a hands-on leader, the incumbent will empower and lead their team to implement strategic priorities and provide tactical direction and operational excellence with respect to: service delivery; reimagining and maintaining focal point of contact for OISE community; and associated application of emerging technologies to bring efficiencies; building communication strategies and channels, developing awareness campaigns that promote new services and technologies, enhancing online presence and its adoption to facilitate client engagement and unique experience; managing knowledge collection, retention and application to discover pedagogical use of technology and ways of embedding appropriate technology into teaching and learning while managing and continually improving technology used in teaching and learning spaces, offices and by research grant recipients.

In collaboration with Associate Director, Digital Products and Architecture, the incumbent will participate in feasibility studies, pilots and proof of concepts as well as design support models that take into consideration pedagogical and research needs of the OISE community while promoting leading practices through knowledge mobilization of OISE researchers and industry trends and best practices.

In partnership with academic and administrative leaders within the division and across the University, the Associate Director, Client Experience and Learning Technologies will continually improve service delivery methods, leverage opportunities in the community in technological advancement and manage planning, budgeting, development and performance/ effectiveness of their portfolio.

The Associate Director, Client Experience and Learning Technologies will represent Education Commons on various University committees and perform a role of Deputy Director when required while acting as OISE, Education Commons representative, advocate of best practice and liaison in building partnerships and a unique OISE experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

A post graduate degree in the field of computer science, information systems, MBA or an equivalent combination of education and experience field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum eight years of senior IT divisional management experience. Proven experience in leading IT client services, audio visual areas of information technology. Expertise in integrating technologies and methodologies to suit and enhance technology in a University environment; Experience working in a shared services environment.

SKILLS:

  • Highly knowledgeable in the teaching, learning, and research functions within a higher education context.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of existing and emerging information systems technology.
  • Excellent knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks (ITIL and COBIT)
  • Demonstrated leadership, managerial, coaching, mentoring and team-building skills
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills and ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, manage multiple priorities, as well as deal with unexpected emergencies as they arise
  • Effective problem-solving/troubleshooting skill
  • Excellent ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and constituencies within OISE, the University, and in the education community
  • Strong operational excellence mindset
  • Demonstrated effective leadership in change management
  • Demonstrated skills in budget management and generating revenue in an academic setting
  • Superior oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage conflict
  • Ability to make difficult decisions.

  • Ability to drive change and build capabilities that effectively balance the needs between continuously exploiting capabilities to optimize operational efficiency and delivering innovative and agile IT services and solutions

  • Strong negotiation skills and superior ability to instill confidence in external and internal constituencies that their IT administrative needs will be met
