Department Description:
The Department of Music at USD offers an integrated study of music history, ethnomusicology, theory, composition, performance, and education in a small, liberal arts environment. Our professionally active faculty, student ensembles, and guest artists contribute to a lively culture of performance and scholarly inquiry.
Detailed Description:
The Department of Music at the University of San Diego announces a tenure-track position in Ethnomusicology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will be actively engaged in teaching, research, and publications. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses as well as upperlevel undergraduate courses. Candidates with interdisciplinary specializations intersecting with themes of Borders, Technology and the Human Experience, or Environmental Justice will be preferred (see cluster announcement). The selected candidate will be a contributing member to one of these clusters and will be expected to expand our current interdisciplinary offerings engaging community, social justice, racism, and/or decolonization. Candidates who can lead a performance ensemble will be prioritized. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who advance the perspectives of historically underrepresented groups in the study of Music. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2021.
Job Requirements:
Applicants should hold an advanced degree, preferably a doctorate by the time of the appointment, September 2022.
Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, an active scholarly agenda, and commitment to collaborative leadership are required.
