Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician I position is responsible for performing basic multi-craft tasks in the maintenance and minor repairs of equipment and buildings. This includes the maintenance and repair of the University's building systems; performing routine preventive maintenance, providing necessary upkeep and repairs on system equipment, facilities, and assisting in other trade specialties as necessary due to excessive workloads, temporary absences, or emergencies. This position will work with considerable independence and may be responsible for training lower level workers.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Repair and maintain doors, floors, windows, partitions, ceilings, and exteriors of buildings.
  • Perform general preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and repairs of building systems and equipment.
  • Perform general plumbing repairs and service drinking fountains.
  • Perform any other related duties as needed or assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Manager or Executive Director of Facilities or other appropriate administrator.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and one to two years of related experience as a skilled worker in maintenance or as a helper to a journeyman; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. The selected candidate must possess a considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the skilled trades; possess excellent communication skills as well as the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; possess a demonstrated knowledge in the use of tools and equipment in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment; possess a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record; demonstrate a high priority toward serving both internal and external customers in a courteous and timely manner; and possess the ability to follow oral and written instruction as well as the ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams. The successful candidate must also possess the ability to problem solve, actively support group decisions, and promote cooperation and understanding in a respectful manner.

Proposed Salary
The annualized salary range is $24,822 - $27,993 and includes full benefits.

Conditions of Employment
The selected candidate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, various weather conditions, and toxic or caustic chemicals; frequently stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The selected candidate must also actively participate in on-call after hours duties on a rotation-basis as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Manager and/or Executive Director of Facilities or other appropriate administrator.

Successful completion of a criminal background investigation and legal authorization to work in the US prior to employment is required.
