Job Summary
Columbus State University has an opening for an Academic Advisor | Student Retention Specialist in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). This position will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of a holistic advisement and student retention program; demonstrate and practice student centeredness; and foster close professional relationships with students. This position will work collaboratively with other departments and programs to ensure accurate, appropriate, and timely services for freshmen and sophomore students and additional retention, progression, and graduation services to student populations throughout the University.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will advise prospective and current students about academic requirements and selection of courses; disseminate information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, etc.; maintain students' records updated throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary; analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic exclusion and provides retention services for students; may assist in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming students; audits student records for curriculum, major and graduation requirements; evaluates and determines potential course substitution requests for transfer students; compares transcripts with entrance and graduation requirements, and advises students on appropriate actions; refers students to appropriate support services or departments; evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements using academic evaluation system; monitors student registration activities and academic performance/progress; coordinates communications to students utilizing intentional advising plan to engage students regarding personal and professional goals, course scheduling, core and major requirements, academic resources, etc.; monitors and tracks the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within assigned population; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a degree from an accredited college or university and related experience in an appropriate academic discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The selected candidate must possess excellent communication skills; a demonstrated ability to take initiative toward project completion; and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include: A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university; previous advising experience; experience in social media application; tracking of special populations; documenting contacts; making referrals; and maintaining advisee files.

Proposed Salary
The annualized salary for this position is $40,000 and includes full benefits.
