Scope of Job:
Responsibilities include teaching clinical and/or didactic courses for the physician assistant department, scholarly activities, professional service, and curriculum development. Applicants with clinical experience and/or a teaching background are encouraged to apply. Minimum Qualifications:
Clinical Assistant Professor: 1. Minimum of a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or medical degree.. Applicants must have a Doctorate and/or a Master’s degree from an accredited institution. 2. Physician Assistant applicants must be NCCPA certified. 3. Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching experience. Clinical Associate Professor: In addition to above criteria for Clinical Assistant Professor, these candidates need: 4. Have a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience at the Assistant Professor Rank 5. Must have an 80% or better in student evaluations 6. Minimum of three published works or presentations 7. Minimum of two activities in service to a university and/or community Clinical Professor: In addition to those listed for Clinical Associate Professor this candidate will — 1. Have earned a doctoral degree in Biological Science, Clinical Science or Health related doctoral field 2. Have a minimum 4 years teaching experience at the Associate Professor Rank. 1. Must have an 80% or better in student evaluations 2. Minimum of three published works or presentations 3. Minimum of two activities in service to a university and/or community

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
