Responsibilities and Duties
The individual selected for this position will be in charge of the on-campus COVID testing center.  They will act as the testing center's medical officer and answer any questions concering the appropriateness of a test request. 

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

    Responding to and evaluating any medical complications of patients having the test performed.Ensuring that the testing center has adquate staffing.Communicating in a timely fashion any concerns, updates involving the test center, staff, and other related matters.Training and supervising COVID testing personnel to use computer programs and to swab and process lab specimens. Serving as the point person for the University of Maryland lab to ensure the testing center has adequate lab requisitions and testing kids, and coordinating transport of the specimens to the UMPA lab. Performing medical assessments of both sick and injured patientes, as well as routine health maintenance assessments, including acute and routine physical exams and a variety of routine and acute women's health assessments.Evaluating walk-in patients, and treating those with simple issues or referring more complex evaluations to other providers.Administering stat oral medications.Performing medical histories and physical exams.Ordering, performing, and/or interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests.Formulating treatment plans in conjunction with the patient and supervising physician.Communicating diagnosis and treatment recommendations in terms the patient can understand.Answering patient questions and encouraging patient participation in treatment decisions.Prescribing appropriate, cost-effective medications, emergency contraception, and other treatment measures. Determining the need for emergency room or specialty referral.Documenting all patient findings, treatment plans, and communications with patient in electronic medical record according to Health Center policies and medical standards.Participating in precepting of PA and Athletic training students.Participating in staff meetings and quality assurance activities as needed.Other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications and Skills
The qualified candidate must possess:

 

    Professional license in Maryland as a Physician Assistant Experience with electronic medical records and other computer programs, such as Excel and SalesForceCurrent Basic Life Support certification
 

Urgent Care or College health experience is preferred. Additionally, this role may need to wear full PPE, including an N95 mask, for up to 6 hours per day.
