About Binghamton University:

Binghamton University is a world-class institution that unites more than 130 broadly interdisciplinary educational programs with some of the most vibrant research in the nation. Our unique character - shaped by outstanding academics, facilities and community life - promotes extraordinary student success.

Binghamton merges rigorous academics, distinguished faculty and state-of-the-art facilities to engage and challenge its 18,000 students. Beyond their talent, these classmates share a desire to shape the future through technology, insight, intellectual exploration and community service.

Job Description:

The School of Management at Binghamton University (State University of New York at Binghamton) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Marketing starting mid-August 2022, subject to budgetary approval.

Description:

Candidates should possess the ability to deliver top-quality classroom teaching. The teaching component (2 + 2) requires delivering required/elective courses in consumer behavior and social media marketing at the undergraduate and master's levels. The ideal candidate should be able to develop other elective courses based on research interest and current trends in marketing.

The selected candidate is required to participate in curriculum development and learning assessments and engage in other service duties for the school and the college both internally and externally.

The School of Management (SOM) is AACSB accredited and nationally recognized for its success in developing future business leaders. The school offers bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. programs.

SOM consistently ranks among the top 50 best undergraduate business schools (Poets & Quants, ranked #28 in 2021 and included among the top 10 business schools to watch), the best business schools in U.S. for business majors by salary potential (PayScale), the best colleges for business majors (Money), and the top business schools in the country for best value (Poets & Quants, PayScale). The MBA is also ranked among the top 50 public business programs.

Currently, the Marketing group has six tenured or tenure-track faculty and four PhD students (with three more joining in Fall 2021).

Located in the Southern Tier region of upstate New York, Binghamton is located three hours from New York City and Philadelphia; nearby are Albany, Ithaca, Syracuse, the Finger Lakes wine region, and the Catskill and Adirondack mountains. Binghamton is a low cost-of-living area of approximately 200,000 residents. The community offers a rich cultural life, professional sports, and many types of outdoor recreational opportunities.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a PhD degree by the time of appointment (mid-August 2022). Candidates with one or two years of experience will also be considered. However, this position does not seek to fill an associate/full position, and only publications that have the Binghamton University affiliation will count towards subsequent promotion and tenure.

A suitable candidate should have a research agenda in the behavioral area (consumer behavior/judgment and decision-making) and demonstrate high-quality research, as evidenced by their potential to publish in the top marketing journals.

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
