JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing and the Nurse Manager, this position provides professional nursing care and health services, including nursing assessments, examinations, and treatment. Provides patient focused advice and education. Conducts health promotion and educational outreach. Collaborates with other providers to enable the student to attain and maintain health. As a college health nurse, this position supports the maintenance and improvement of the health of students, identifying and assisting in removing or modifying health related barriers and supporting early detection and early intervention strategies. Refers students to other resources as appropriate; maintains electronic medical records and ensures compliance with state laws and regulations, SHaW policies and procedures, and program protocols.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interviews patients, documents medical history, examines patient, and makes assessments and/or physical diagnosis of condition of such patient. Counsels patient with regard to treatment and prevention.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team to formulate individualized plan of care for student patients.
  • Administers medications and treatments via established protocols as authorized by licensed Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.
  • Provides specific health counseling and general health education to concerned individuals, patients and groups.
  • Refers patient for specialized medical care beyond the scope of the Student Health Service, including arrangement for any necessary ambulance transportation.
  • Gives necessary emergency treatment and referral to anyone ill/injured on campus.
  • Participates in and/or conducts in-service presentations. Participates in various SHaW and university committees and advisory groups.
  • Maintains proper clinical records and reports. Maintains drugs, medical supplies, and equipment as necessary.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of CT
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or other health related field
  • Two to three years of current nursing experience working directly with adolescents/young adults in ambulatory care, public health, emergency setting
  • Demonstrable physical assessment skills
  • Utilization of an electronic health record
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making
  • CPR Certification
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a College Health Setting.
  • Experience providing Nursing Telephone Advice/Triage.
  • IV placement Skills.
  • ACLS
APPOINTMENT TERMS

These are two permanent positions that can be full-time year-round (12 months) or have up to 3 months summer leave (work 9 months per academic year). These openings are for one day shifts with rotating weekends and one position is primarily evenings during the fall and spring academic calendar. Please specify your preference when you apply.
