Saint Xavier University (SXU), a distinguished four-year, comprehensive, private Catholic institution located on the scenic southwest side of Chicago, seeks in its inaugural Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) a courageous, collaborative, strategic and inspiring leader who has a track record of building programs and partnerships to address the intersecting dimensions of diversity. The successful candidate will bring emotional intelligence and strong communication and conflict-resolution skills to complex issues in order to move the institution forward. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated skills in collecting and using data to assess needs and programs; familiarity with and support of shared responsibility and accountability in an academic setting; significant supervisory experience and demonstrated strengths in coaching and mentoring; and, the capacity to bring together community resources in support of institutional change and growth.

Reporting to the President, the CDO will lead and champion the development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of proactive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. This work will be accomplished in support of SXU's strategic plan to create a learning community in which all have an opportunity to succeed. The CDO will be a visible and connected leader who actively engages students, faculty and staff to further behaviors, attitudes and policies that support equity and inclusion, and foster a sense of belonging. The CDO will collaborate with University stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce and assess the need for and recommend training initiatives designed to increase inclusivity and cultural competencies.

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Xavier holds the distinctions of being Chicago's oldest Catholic university as well as the first Mercy institution of higher learning in the world, and it was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) in 2014.
