POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Program Manager for Library Consortium Operations, the Systems Librarian for Consortium Operations serves the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) Library Consortium, which includes the libraries of the CSCU system along with the Connecticut State Library. The Systems Librarian for Consortium Operations works collegially to advance functional leadership and technical support in planning, implementing, maintaining, and assessing systems, applications, and services that enable the CSCU Library Consortium to further realize its mission and strategic objectives.

 

This position’s responsibilities concern the technological infrastructure that supports library services within the consortium’s member libraries. The position contributes to providing high-quality, robust systems that facilitate effective and efficient delivery and management of library services and resources. This position supports the technology necessary for students, faculty, staff, and others to discover and use library services in advancement of success, equity, diversity, social justice, and access to resources that spark creativity and intellectual enrichment. Responsibilities include areas of library systems such as library automation/integrated library systems, library technology, and search and discovery. In addition, this position monitors trends related to the ongoing development of library systems and emerging technologies. 

The position works in collaboration with CSCU colleagues and the CSCU Library Consortium’s leadership, committees, working groups, and personnel at member libraries. The position executes its responsibilities through a lens that fosters and promotes equity and diversity. 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.   

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enables and maintains access to and discovery of collections shared across the consortium.
  • Assesses, improves, and supports technologies used by the consortium to enable member libraries to collaboratively serve their communities.
  • Plans to ensure for advanced, sustained, and efficient use of technologies in support of consortium operations.
  • Develops consortium-wide solutions to shared problems with systems, applications, and services. 
  • Develops, performs, maintains, and communicates the results of analytics concerning consortium operations and shared collections.
  • Researches, implements, and regularly updates shared systems, including but not limited to, library management services platform, research discovery service, proxy server (or access and authentication software), and content management systems.
  • Assists consortium member libraries in implementation, use, and troubleshooting of local instances of shared systems.
  • Investigates and resolves problems with access to shared e-resource collections.
  • Assists Program Manager for Library Consortium Operations in administration of online platforms (digital services that facilitate interactions between two or more users via the internet) for consortial collaboration and information sharing.
  • Communicates with vendors on behalf of the CSCU system and library consortium.
  • Creates and maintains appropriate documentation such as procedures and guidelines.
  • Serves on and/or leads relevant CSCU system and library consortium committees and working groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association is required, together with three (3) or more years of library system administration experience with an academic library, library consortium, or private firm with an academic library focus. In addition, the Systems Librarian for Consortium Operations is required to have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in the following areas:

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and direct experience with current library standards and practices in all aspects of integrated library systems.
  • Personal attributes include strong analytical skills and the ability to apply those skills to collegially and collaboratively solve complex problems in a dynamic environment.
  • Position requires the ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete them in a timely fashion. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing collections and services in Alma.
  • Experience managing collections and services in an Alma Network Zone.
  • Experience managing Primo interface and services. 
  • Experience administering Springshare systems.
  • Experience administering electronic resource authentication through EZproxy.
  • Experience integrating library systems with other enterprise applications.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience providing library personnel and users with technical support.

These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.

Starting Salary:  $68,581 to $89,027 (midpoint) plus excellent State-supported fringe benefits.

Work Environment:

Incumbents typically perform their work in offices. The work involves extensive use of personal computers, but does not normally, involve any significant physical effort.  Reasonable accommodation will be made for incumbents and candidates with physical limitation.
