Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Georgia license as a Registered Nurse; Minimum 1-year applicable clinic nursing experience; AHA Healthcare Provider BLS certification

Position Summary:

The Registered Professional Nurse provides clinical nursing care and education to eligible patients of the University Health Center. The Registered Professional Nurse works closely with nursing staff, clinician staff, the clinic manager, the clinic lead physician, administrative staff, patients, and their families in providing professional nursing care.
The Registered Professional Nurse may act as a charge nurse in the absence of the Clinic Manager and reports to and is directly supervised by the assigned Clinic Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Windows. Basic Keyboarding skills. Experience with electronic practice management and health records.

Physical Demands:

Active throughout the 8 hours work day to include typical busy medical office/clinic demands, including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, typing, bending, talking, listening, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Clinical Nursing: Practices safe, effective and appropriate clinical nursing in accordance with UHC policies and procedures and within the scope of the RN Nurse Practice Act of Georgia. Provides culturally sensitive and age-specific nursing care to patients of the University Health Center. Demonstrates the ability to administer medications and IV therapy accurately and safely. Performs and documents patient assessments, nursing interventions, education, follow up care, treatment, and services.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Manages patient flow in the clinic. Triages patients and identifies appropriate disposition for care. Refers patients to providers and coordinates care throughout the visit and in follow-up to other providers and services. Updates patient medical registries as needed. Supports the work of other clinic team members including scheduling visits, billing, data entry, ordering, and other clinic and Health Center functions. Provides patients with needed information about diagnostic procedures, treatments, and charges as indicated.

Exhibits professional knowledge, self-direction, accountability, and the ability to use sound judgment. Provides clinical direction to clinic assistants and administrative assistants. Collaborates with medical providers in directing patient care and outcomes. Supervises clinic operations and staff in the absence of the Clinic Manager. Resolves patient and family concerns and complaints. Demonstrates professional presentation in dress, grooming, and work habits. Demonstrates commitment to organizational goals and the improvement of patient care.

Patient Education: Identifies learning needs, and provides education that meets the physical, psychological, social, and cultural needs of the patient. Provides individualized teaching including ongoing evaluation of patient understanding and compliance. Makes appropriate modifications in instructional techniques for age-related and individual learning needs. Assists with development of new interventions, tools, and methods of teaching. Collaborates with other UHC staff in addressing educational need of patients.
