About the College/Unit/Department:

The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and the University of Georgia partnered to create a four-year medical school campus in Athens to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians.

The AU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the birthplace of public higher education, with the expertise one of the country’s first, and Georgia’s only public medical school, the Medical College of Georgia.

In addition to increasing the number of physicians in Georgia, the partnership is expanding research collaborations between AU and UGA, creating new insights into the prevention and treatment of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Students have the opportunity to learn in small group class sizes, while having the benefit of being part of one of the largest medical schools in the United States.

Position Summary:

The Internal Medicine Program Coordinator, under the direction and supervision of the Lead Internal Medicine Program Coordinator and the Program Director, is responsible for assisting in the administration of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Internal Medicine Residency Program as outlined in the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Program Requirements. The Internal Medicine Program Coordinator provides administrative support to the Assistant and Associate Program Directors, faculty, residents, and medical librarian. This position entails a comprehensive and detailed understanding of national accreditation policies (ACGME) and hospital policies, as well as a high-degree of initiative and independent judgment.

The position is located at St. Mary’s Hospital and will travel to the AU/UGA Medical Partnership as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

• Flexibility with regard to work hours is required; attendance at early morning, evening and weekend events/meetings is required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners who are both internal and external to the residency program.
• Proficient with current technology and software tools, including Microsoft Office programs. Ability to quickly learn and master new technology and programs, such as Residency Management Systems software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Program Administration and Accreditation –
Provides general administrative support to the Internal Medicine Residency Program and performs a variety of operational and administrative duties including but not limited to planning department events, organizing meetings, didactics, assisting in the preparation for site visits, monitoring duty hour compliance and managing program letters of agreements. This position frequently deals with issues of a highly confidential nature and must be able to use discretion effectively.

Resident Recruitment –
Assists the Lead Program Coordinator in planning and organizing the interview recruitment season to include preparation of interview materials, coordinating the applicants interview day, acting as an information source for the program and assistance with Match and post-Match activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

New Hire Onboarding, Orientation and Graduation –
Ensures all onboarding requirements are completed in a timely manner for incoming class, including documentation required by Office of Graduate Medical Education and St. Mary’s Hospital. Assists the Program Director in developing orientation for incoming trainees, including presentations, computer training sessions and policy overview. Ensures all annual credentialing and other hospital, program and institutional requirements are met for each trainee in program. Collaborates with the Lead Program Coordinator in the planning of all resident graduation activities and other department events.
