Overview and Responsibilities
The Student Success Specialist (Diversity Resources) supports and provides case management services to new and continuing students underrepresented by gender in their career fields (Non-Traditional Occupations), non-white/multicultural students, and international students at all CVTC campuses to improve student performance through targeted interventions. This position will also serve as a Designated School Official, supporting CVTC’s international student processing needs. The Student Success Specialist (Diversity Resources) is part of the Diversity Resources team and reports to the Diversity Resources Manager.
- Case manage progress of assigned student populations and measure the impact of prescribed interventions through specified case management databases.
- Provide appropriate retention services and programming for assigned student populations.
- Provide crisis intervention support, as well as behavioral intervention support, and coordinate community resource and mental health counseling referrals for assigned student populations.
- Assist assigned student populations with developing skills necessary to succeed and overcome barriers (interpersonal skills, appropriate college behavior, professional attitude, conflict management skills, time management and assertiveness).
- Administer Designated School Official (DSO) duties as assigned for prospective and current International Student population, including International Student orientation.
- Support departmental efforts to develop and implement proactive outreach activities and communication plans for assigned at-risk student populations and other targeted populations as identified.
- Maintain reports on designated data system(s) for all assigned populations, tracking their participation, use of interventions, and intervention outcomes.
- Co-lead department student organization (EMPOWER).
- Assist student in making appropriate academic and career choices through course selection, career advisement, and career planning.
- Develop and implement student success workshops, when necessary.
- Support, coordinate, monitor, and implement grant activities as assigned.
- Coordinate with Student Services teams to identify new and continuing at-risk students.
- Participate on appropriate college teams and contribute to accomplishing the goals and objectives of the team(s).
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social, or educational backgrounds.
- Create and support an environment that focuses on value added learning and culturally responsive student support services.
- Cross-train with department members to provide support and feedback.
- Maintain confidentiality, including all student records.

- Intermediate knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to various campuses if necessary.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate and related to the goals and objectives of Student Services departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field with three years of case management experience; or a master’s degree in Education, School/Mental Health Counseling, Student Affairs, or related area.
- Minimum of one-year related work experience in multicultural student services and behavior intervention programs.
- Experience working with at-risk male populations.
- International F1 VISA/immigration knowledge preferred.
- Certification and/or training in Title IX preferred.
- Mental Health First Aid (or similar) training preferred.
- Post-secondary professional experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
