Department Summary:

A wide range of student- and faculty-centered services are the cornerstone of the Libraries’ integral role in the University of North Texas community. As the most-used service on campus and an essential component of education and research at the University of North Texas, the Libraries offer access to an abundant collection of more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. We provide innovative and inclusive programs and support to enhance the intermingling of teaching, learning, and research at UNT.

The Sycamore Library is a stand-alone branch of the UNT Libraries. Our Library promotes and provides access to the distinct collections of the UNT Libraries including the Government Information Connection, Funding Information Network, juvenile collections, and a number of collections in the Digital Library and Portal to Texas History. The department supports services in the areas of Circulation, Reserves, Reference, and Research Assistance, in addition to managing our print and digital collections.

Position Overview:

The Sycamore Library Reserves Manager and Cataloging Assistant (LSA) is responsible for managing the reserves collections at the Sycamore Library and assisting with cataloging projects. This position develops and manages reserves workflows and maintains the reserves collection and provides cataloging support to the Government Documents Cataloger.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows.
• Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
• Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent customer service skills.• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment.• Experience using Sierra and Microsoft Office products.• Knowledge of library call number systems, including the SuDoc classification system, and online catalogs.• Project management experience.• Attention to detail.• Six months experience performing cataloging duties in a library setting.

o:

Leads the planning, development, and implementation of course reserve services at the Sycamore Library by directing, monitoring, and assisting with reserves processing workflow. Works with the Department Head to suggest, plan and direct course reserves projects at the Sycamore Library.

o:

Manages the course reserves program at the Sycamore Library, including the processing of new reserve requests and course reactivations, creation and maintenance of each semester’s physical reserve collection and electronic reserve files and access, and removal of items from reserves when no longer needed.

o:

Maintains copyright knowledge and works with others as necessary to ensure that reserves items meet compliance. Assists faculty/instructors and students regarding copyright law and copyright policy at the UNT Libraries.

o:

Oversees disability accommodation of the reserves collections at Sycamore Library by assigning work as needed and ensuring resources are accessible and compliant.

o:

Performs basic technical services cataloging functions, including copy and adaptive cataloging, metadata creation. Generate reports and statistics on cataloging activities and provides feedback on process and workflow improvement.

o:

Assists in processing of government documents collections. Performs physical processing of incoming materials and processes claims for missing items.
