Job Description Summary
Founded in 1765 as the first medical school in the country, the Perelman School of Medicine consistently ranks as one of the nation's finest medical schools. Its 9,000 MD alumni and 11,000 graduate medical education alumni are leaders in their respective fields across the country and around the world. The Office of Alumni Development and Alumni Relations engages and connects these alumni, as well as parents and friends, in meaningful ways to deepen their relationship with the School and to enhance the experience of today's medical students through philanthropic support and volunteerism. The Annual Giving team works closely with Major/Leadership Gifts and Alumni Relations to increase unrestricted support for the School as well as giving to class scholarships and other specialty funds.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the implementation of direct marketing outreach (including mail, email, calling, texting, etc.), as well as the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors to support the annual giving program which raises more than $1.6 million annually. The Assistant Director will also have a special focus on creating opportunities for students and recent graduates to remain connected with the school to foster strong relationships for the future and developing creative e-communication strategies.

Job Description

The Assistant Director will:
  • Implement outreach efforts via direct mail, electronic marketing, student calling and/or other emerging technologies such as texting in support of annual fund goals, with primary responsibility for digital outreach strategy.
  • Recruit, manage and support volunteer groups such as reunion committees, student giving campaign committee, and the Council of Recent Graduates in partnership with Alumni Relations team.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase membership in leadership giving societies (particularly at the recent graduate level) and loyalty giving society, as well as overall donor retention and acquisition, in partnership with Director of Annual Giving and Major/Leadership Gifts team.
  • Coordinate and implement annual fund stewardship activities, including written communications, gift programs and events.
  • Manage annual student giving and engagement campaign, helping to build a culture of philanthropy by supporting student leaders in encouraging their classmates to join in.
  • Manage annual alumni honor roll production.
  • Develop and coordinate production of collateral materials
  • Coordinate and implement targeted reunion class annual fund solicitations
  • Develop a regular reporting plan to analyze program progress against short and long term goals.
  • Research and implement emerging technologies and strategies in digital communications to enhance overall outreach and in support of department goals.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the educational, research, and clinical operations at Penn Medicine as well as the University's annual giving goals, programs and initiatives. Ensure coordination between Penn Medicine's annual fund program and the University's annual fund programs.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, 2-3 years progressively responsible experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education (preferably within a non-profit setting, in higher education, or marketing/sales experience) required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of individuals in a complex organization.
  • Ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare presentations and summaries to communicate analysis results
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer proficiency required, including thorough understanding of Microsoft office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Thorough understanding of databases and data manipulation also required; experience with email marketing software a plus.
  • Travel, evening and weekend work required.
