Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary
Supervises enforcement duties involving general and criminal regulations and institutional rules and regulations in order to provide for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees and property within the areas under the control and authorized jurisdiction of the agency. Provides mentoring, leadership and supervision of the staff of the University police department as a member of the leadership staff assigned to a specific operational areas of responsibility. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Responsibilities
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates personnel, including police corporals, police officers, security officers, and other non-sworn support staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control
  • Ensures the enforcement of all applicable codes, ordinances, laws and regulations (both traffic and criminal) in order to protect life and property, prevent crime, and promote security
  • Supervises the detection and deterrence of criminal activity
  • Supervises patrolling of designated areas
  • Supervises response to calls relayed by dispatchers
  • Supervises the issuing of citations, apprehension, arrest and processing of criminals, fugitives and offenders as appropriate
  • Provides assistance and backup support to other officers and agencies, as necessary
  • Ensures assigned staff has the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work
  • Supervises assigned staff, compiles, reviews, and approves timesheets, addresses and/or forwards employee concerns; counsels and/or recommends employee corrective action, assists with or completes employee performance appraisals
  • Trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures, monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work, consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise
  • Responds, supervises and manages personnel and resources during any critical type incidents until the incident is completed or until relieved by the appropriate incident commander

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent and at least 21 years of age

Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia driver's license
Current Basic Law Enforcement Certification from the Georgia P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training Council) or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment

Required Experience
Four (4) years of sworn law enforcement experience including one (1) year experience as a Field Training Officer, Corporal, or Detective

State supervisory certificate preferred
Law Enforcement Instructor certification

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related field

  • Able to work nontraditional shifts, including nights and weekends
  • May be expected to serve as a Field Training Officer
  • May be reassigned to another operational area or section of equal rank
  • May be required to attend law enforcement training at state, region and/or national level
  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
  • Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
  • Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
