CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICER

New York, New York

The Rockefeller University (Rockefeller), one of the world’s foremost biomedical research universities, seeks a strategic leader and effective administrator with an innovative spirit and track record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to serve as its inaugural Chief Diversity Officer. Rockefeller is world-renowned for its groundbreaking discoveries in basic and clinical research and draws top scientists and graduate students from around the world in pursuit of one mission: to conduct science for the benefit of humanity.

Rockefeller is a vibrant, collaborative, and international scientific community comprised of approximately 69 heads of laboratories, with approximately 220 graduate students, 219 postdocs, 1,286 staff, and a research budget of $240 million. Each of its laboratories is led by a Rockefeller scientist who reports directly to the President. There are ten broad research areas, but zero formal departments and a lean administration with minimal bureaucracy.

The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) will be a highly influential leader with the ability to empower others to collectively deepen Rockefeller’s ongoing efforts to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community for all faculty, staff, postdocs, and students.  They will report to the Executive Vice President and serve on the University’s leadership team. A successful candidate will bring a deep commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), a collaborative leadership style, and an understanding of the unique needs of historically underrepresented and marginalized groups. In partnership with faculty, staff, postdocs, and students, the CDO will be responsible for developing Rockefeller’s first ever strategic plan for a more diverse and inclusive campus where all members of Rockefeller’s close-knit unique community can thrive. The inaugural CDO will bring experience to catalyze institutional and cultural change and develop systems and processes to measure the impact of the University’s DEI initiatives at every level of the institution.
