Advisor/Recruiter Type of Position:
The Advisor/Recruiter reports directly to the Director of Advising and Recruiting and is responsible for the coordination of the comprehensive recruiting efforts for Lamar State College Orange. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:Qualifications:
1. Establishes close working relationships with high school counselors and representatives of the community; initiates, coordinates, and conducts presentations to high schools and community groups.2. Assists in the development and implementation of a college recruiting plan and recruiting material.3. Assist in advising current and prospective students on degree and program requirements and campus policies and procedures.4. Coordinates the freshman orientation activities.5. Plans campus tours and college day visits for prospective students.6. Coordinates the response of the college to requests for information about academic programs and degrees.7. Provide advice and a knowledgeable source of referrals for campus support programs. 8. Advise prospective students on the admissions and registration process.9. Nurture students and help raise their confidence levels as needed for success in reaching their higher education goals. 10. Assist in the planning and implementation of other campus events as needed.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned
Associate Degree required. Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education, or related fields preferred.Salary:
Experience working in higher education preferred.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required. Project or event planning skills preferred. Knowledge of academic advising techniques and of computers, applications, and software programs that support advising programs preferred. Knowledge of the Texas State University System, industry and technology, recruiting, and job placement is preferred. Must be able to work nights and/or weekends. Requires travel.
Requires frequent sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent driving, standing, lifting, and pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 20 pounds. Requires operating a personal computer, calculator and various pieces of office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing.
This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
