Student Success Advisor
Type of Position:Staff
Responsibilities:The Student Success Advisor reports to the Director of Advising and Recruiting and will lead all efforts in supporting and retaining students deemed academically at risk. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Provide academic advising and support to students on academic probation and create individualized plans to return to good standing.
2. Work with Director to develop, plan, and implement an improved program for monitoring academic progress and student retention.
3. Foster strong retention efforts by working with LSCO faculty on an early alert and intervention process for students potentially at risk of failing a course.
4. Create communication plan for advising staff to meet with at risk students regularly and assign probation student caseload to advising staff.
5. Provide additional written correspondence to all students that are at risk in current classes, on probation, or have been placed on academic suspension.
6. Nurture students and help raise their confidence levels, as needed.
7. Advise other non-at risk student populations, as needed.
8. Provide advice and a knowledgeable source of referrals for campus support programs.
9. Work with other faculty and staff on events and workshops geared towards student success.
10. Actively participate in assisting the college to maintain standards required for accreditation
11. Maintain student advising files.
12. Advise students on and help navigate the process for drops, adds, and withdrawals.
13. Advise students on course sequences, degree planning, and the graduation process.
14. Perform other appropriate duties as may be determined by the Director of Advising and Recruiting.
Associate Degree required. Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, education, communication, or related fields preferred. Experience in a higher education preferred. Knowledge of computers, spreadsheets, and other data management systems required. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of academic advising techniques, the Texas State University System, and job placement is preferred.
This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215
