Job Details

The Skidmore College Counseling Center is searching for a Staff Clinician. This position is a full-time, 11 month, regular appointment. Duties include: providing short-term therapy, including single session work; crisis intervention; rotation in after-hours on-call coverage in support of our contracted on-call service; psycho-educational programming; consultation; leading a skills-building workshop series; and participation in the Center’s multidisciplinary treatment team, as well as the larger division of Student Affairs. A key responsibility of this position is to support the success and mental well-being of students from historically marginalized and under-represented backgrounds. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to build rapport and work effectively with diverse populations including BIPOC individuals, first generation students, international students, and LGBTQ+ students, and should speak to this experience directly in their application. This individual will also serve as a liaison to Student Academic Services office, with a specific focus on supporting our international student population as well as students with disabilities. Finally, the Staff Clinicians are involved in helping to train the college’s Residential Life staff as well as other student leadership training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Terminal degree in either social work (M.S.W.) or psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) 

Experience:  At least one year of previous experience in a mental health position, working with a college age population. Ability to achieve independent NYS licensure as a psychologist or LCSW-level social worker within one year of hire.

  • Requires strong clinical skills, including the ability to conduct rapid assessment, accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and flexible service delivery in a short-term therapy model.
  • Requires the ability to establish oneself as a person who is expert, trustworthy, and compassionate with students, family, faculty, and staff members who may be experiencing high levels of distress and concern.
  • Requires knowledge of current standards of practice, professional ethics, NYS mental health law, and best practices in terms of treatment, risk assessment, and management of crisis situations.
  • Requires the ability to function as a highly collaborative and professional colleague, able to interact with other staff members from the Counseling Center and from the larger Skidmore community daily.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively across differences with individuals from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities.
  • Requires knowledge of, and facility with, electronic medical recordkeeping systems and clinical documentation standards and statutes.
  • Requires strong written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to set limits and define appropriate boundaries.
  • Requires current knowledge of clinical outcome research.
  • Requires the ability to triage and prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and consistently meet expected deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced office environment.
  • Requires the ability to be flexible and to work with a relatively high degree of autonomy, while also complying with communicated expectations, established systems/procedures, and directives.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience
