28-Jul-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences (AES) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time Instructor to teach in its undergraduate program. The instructor will be a member of the AES faculty and will participate in course development and assessment, faculty governance, and university service.
Candidates are sought who have an MS or PhD degree in either aerospace, aeronautical, or astronautical engineering, or a closely related field or equivalent industry experience. Applicants must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to teach and work in a highly collaborative environment. Preference will be given to applicants with prior university teaching experience, years of experience, and graduate degrees.

Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences is nationally known for teaching and research that address both challenges and opportunities facing the aerospace profession. Students work extensively on hands-on experiments in the Practical Innovation Through Learning, Observation and Teaching (PILOT) Laboratory and design projects alongside expert faculty in the department's world-class research centers. Our vibrant community of engineers and scientists tackle challenges in aerospace technology and science.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeViable candidates should be capable of teaching a wide range of undergraduate aerospace engineering courses in both lecture and laboratory formats. Candidates are expected to fit into curriculum groups focused on a) structures, materials, and structural dynamics or b) aerospace design and system engineering. These areas include courses related to statics and structural analysis, experimental and computational methods, material science for aerospace engineers, aerospace vehicle design and performance, and mechanics of materials. Engineering design or operational experience in one or both of these areas is ideal. An understanding and appreciation for aerospace engineering fundamentals, as well as excellent management, communication, and organizational skills, along with a willingness to learn quickly, is required. A successful candidate in this position will teach multiple courses during the academic year and summer terms. This instructor position typically has effort allocations of 80% teaching and 20% service, however these allocations are negotiable for a highly qualified applicant. Research is typically not included in this position, unless related to engineering education.What You Should KnowCandidates who are invited for an in-depth interview will be expected to conduct a lecture in one or more of the topics identified in this opening.   • Experience teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
