The Clinical Research Support Team (CReST) has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Clinical Trials Research Finance Specialist position.

Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families.  Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level. Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.

Job Summary:

The full time Clinical Research Finance Specialist provides budget development, budget reconciliation, invoicing, accounting, and other financial support for various clinical trials in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, CReST and the departments and investigators that CReST supports. Other duties may include regulatory support and study management. This position reports directly to the Director of CReST, and may act as a “work lead”, providing oversight of Professional Research Assistants (PRAs).

Examples of Work Performed:

General Duties

  • Provide organizational and programmatic support to CReST and research that CReST is engaged in.
  • Responsible for budget development, budget reconciliation, financial management and invoicing for a range of studies being run by different departments.
  • Management of multiple projects/services, including the development and maintenance of project-related budgets, invoicing and reporting activities; coordinating, attending and leading meetings with study teams and other stakeholders; and tracking program/project outcomes.
Trainings, Meetings & Events

  • Develop training materials, SOPs and guidance documents for finance work completed by CReST.
  • Provide administrative and programmatic support as required by study and department to ensure timely and effective communication.
Projects & Grants

  • Submit new proposals to InfoEd and develop project budgets for industry and investigator-initiated clinical studies.
  • Manage project-related invoices and subcontracts, monitor and report on project budgets. Create/manage invoices for relevant items from executed clinical trial budgets/agreements.
  • Preparation and submission of reports.
Other duties

  • Support CReST through regulatory management, data entry, clinical coordination or any other activities that contribute to the success of the group.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $60,000-80,000
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of 4 years of clinical research experience (including industry sponsored and investigator-initiated trials).
  3. Experience MUST include at least 2 years creating and negotiating industry clinical trial budgets and managing clinical trial invoicing.
  4. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  5. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least, two years’ experience in a clinical trials finance position
  • Formal training/education in accounting or finance
  • Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong multi-tasking and high-level organizational skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work effectively with multiple investigators, administrators and study team members, going above and beyond to provide a level of support that encourages meaningful engagement with CReST projects/programs/services.
  • Emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate and respond to team progress and related group dynamics. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences, including physicians, professional colleagues, other groups on campus and industry sponsors.
  • Must be flexible with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to accomplish tasks with limited direction
  • Strong professional accountability.
