About us:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which plays a criticalrole in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $53.3 million in research funding per year, the School contributes to improving population health and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, climate change response, implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease and wellness, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas. This past year, $10 million philanthropic dollars was raised for research, education and knowledge translation, and the over 7000 alumni were deeply engaged through events and networking opportunities.

Your opportunity:

As Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Officer, you will be part of a collaborative and dynamic team, and responsible for developing and implementing the School’s Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Program and supporting all facets of alumni relations and annual giving to ensure they remain engaged and active participants in activities within the School as well as continue to contribute in other ways. You will conceptualize and implement a variety of high impact, value-added alumni events and programs that support event/program goals, including implementing project plans, executing logistics, handling event expenses, and communicating with various internal and external stakeholders. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of prospect identification, cultivation as well as prepare solicitation materials and meet with potential annual giving donors to discuss giving interest and opportunities. You will be a highly motivated, detail-oriented professional committed to increasing alumni engagement and annual giving opportunities and to the School’s mission of creating a healthy and equitable society.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing components of fundraising campaigns, including updating prospect databases and portfolios, contributing to the development and implementation of prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation and meeting face-to-face with potential donors to discuss giving opportunitiesDeveloping and implementing alumni engagement activities that support strategic objectives and maximize outreach to students
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and fostering positive relationships with alumni
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials and maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Promoting alumni engagement opportunities to academic units, graduating students,industry partners and alumni; and canvassing alumni groups and volunteers to obtain potential speakers, mentors and new alumni volunteers
  • Analyzing the impact of programming on alumni engagement by conducting post-event evaluation, analysis and recommendations for changes
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing alumni event activities including creating and updating invitation lists, monitoringaccounts and assigning the work of volunteers

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four years of relevant experience in a combination of alumni relations, development activity, volunteer management, student engagement and front-line customer service
  • Experience supporting fundraising campaigns, including meeting with potential donors
  • Experience in the development and implementation of strategic and targeted alumni programs, activities and events including monitoring program accounts and reporting
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including student groups
  • Experience developing communications, marketing plans and written materials (invitation letters, solicitation letters, briefing materials, mailing lists)
  • Experience using and maintaining a specialized database (i.e. alumni/donor database) and analyzing data with initiative and independent judgment
  • Experience canvassing, leading and motivating volunteers
  • Experience researching and writing nominations for awards
  • Experience analyzing and evaluating the impact of programs/events to inform future programming
  • Experience maintaining and updating information on digital platforms
  • Excellent computer skills with sound working knowledge of PC platforms
  • Proficient knowledge of a content management system
  • Superior organizational skills including the ability to balance competing priorities and work under pressure to specific deadlines
  • Exceptional decision making, problem solving and time management skills as well as excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing own projects and programs and showing creativity, initiative and good judgement
  • Ability to network and confidently represent the University at alumni events
  • Solid critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Customer service and solutions-oriented
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people from a variety of professional and social backgrounds
  • Ability to bring individuals and groups together (staff, peers, alumni, volunteers), and to motivate and guide them effectively
