The Department of Educational Psychology is pleased to announce an opening for non-tenure track, academic year Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Practice, Clinical Psychology position based in Phoenix, Arizona. The program is seeking to hire a clinically seasoned faculty member to teach core courses in Clinical Psychology. The position is renewable, based on availability of funds, effective performance, and program needs.

Job Description

The ideal candidate for this position must be well-versed in using innovative instructional methodology, have expertise in clinical practice and research related to practice, supervision skills, diverse experiences, and professional proficiencies. The position is a 9-month academic year position with opportunities for summer course teaching.


1. Teach graduate clinical psychology classes (including practicum) for the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.
2. Teach majority of courses in-person.
3. Assist in recruiting, retaining, and advising doctoral students in Clinical Psychology.
4. Direct graduate student clinical research projects.
5. Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and the profession.
6. Work collaboratively with behavioral health service agencies to coordinate practicum and internship experiences for clinical psychology students.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor of Practice:

1. Earned Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or in a closely related area of Applied Psychology.
2. Prior college teaching experience.
3. Experience in the field of Applied Psychology, with background/experience in health service agencies.
4. Experience supervising practicum/internships, therapeutic techniques and psychological assessment
5. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Arizona.

Associate Professor of Practice

1. Earned Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or in a closely related area of Applied Psychology.
2. Three or more years of graduate-level teaching experience.
3. Three to five years of experience in the field of Applied Psychology, with background/experience in health service agencies.
4. Three or more years of experience supervising practicum/internships, therapeutic techniques and psychological assessment
5. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Arizona.

Professor of Practice:

1. Earned Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or in a closely related area of Applied Psychology.
2. Six or more years graduate level teaching experience.
3. Six or more years of experience in the field of Applied Psychology, with background/experience in health service agencies.
4. Six or more years of experience supervising practicum/internships, therapeutic techniques and psychological assessment
5. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychologist in Arizona.

Preferred Qualifications
    Four to eight years (depending on rank) of relevant graduate level teaching experience in the area of clinical psychology Three to six years (depending on rank) experience in supervising practicum and internships, therapeutic techniques, and psychological assessment.Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students.Evidence of scholarly activity.Ability/experience working with graduate students on research projects.Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with department chairs, other program directors/coordinators, faculty, staff, students, and associated members of the professional community.Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds, including rural and southwest populations.Evidence of a strong psychologist identity, and an active involvement in related professional associations.Experience working in an educational setting that emphasizes diverse student populationsExperience in networking/collaborating and consulting with health service agencies.

General Information

The Department of Educational Psychology is located within the College of Education. The department currently offers a PhD in Combined Counseling/School Psychology (Flagstaff campus), Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in Clinical Psychology (Phoenix North Valley campus), EdS in School Psychology, Master's degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling-School Counseling, Counseling-Student Affairs, and Human Relations. The Department of Educational Psychology has many statewide locations that also offers many of these programs.

Northern Arizona University has a student population of 29,569, including approximately 21,000 on its main campus in Flagstaff and the remainder at more than 20 locations statewide and online.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
