Landscape Assistant III - Athletic Plant Maintenance

Regular Full-time, Market Range 03

This position will be responsible for daily maintenance, mowing, fertilizing, and painting of all grass playing surfaces as well as set up of fields and stadium areas for all University of Tennessee Athletics sporting events. This position will be required to understand the game operation and playing format for multiple sports and their field usage requirements.  Must be a team player who can adjust to fluid work schedule changes due to weather and lengths of competitions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

    Mowing and cleaning of grass practice/game fields at football stadium and practice locations along with soccer and softball facilities. Post-athletic department sponsored event cleaning.Aerification, debris removal, and sand topdressing applications. Paint and field set up for intercollegiate competitions as well as practice at soccer, softball, football facilities/stadium, and the track and field facility.Application of liquid and granular fertilizers on all outdoor playing services. These areas include but are not limited to Haslam training facility, Sherry Lee Parker softball Stadium, Regal Soccer Stadium, Tom Black Track, and Neyland Stadium. Additionally, all fertilizer application records and inventory will be documented and cataloged as part of this position.Lead, train, and mentor student and seasonal employees. Serve in a leadership role when the supervisor is not present.Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
 

Education:

High school diploma or GED required/Associate’s Degree or higher preferred in a related field.

 

Experience:    

Two years of sports field experience at the collegiate or professional level. An internship year of experience at a professional or collegiate venue would apply.

 

Skills:   

  • Knowledge of mower set up and maintenance, tractor safety and proper usage.
  • Knowledge of sprayers and fertilizer application techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper field layout and painting techniques for athletic facilities.
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent time management skills
