Organizational Unit Overview:

The BSOM Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) Office promotes development and facilitation of the clinical and basic science research programs across the BSOM, plus pre- and post-doctoral PhD training in the biomedical sciences. The office is dedicated to sustaining excellence in graduate education and to strengthening the vital link between research and the educational process. The BSOM Research and Graduate Studies Office has oversight for research activities in the Brody School of Medicine. It coordinates activities with other divisions of the university as they relate to research and graduate studies in a collaborative fashion. The Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies, has oversight of the graduate program in the School of Medicine and its 6 PhD programs and its two Master’s programs.

RGS oversees research-related policy development and implementation, assurance of academic integrity in research endeavors and compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to research, monitors external funding awarded for research and School of Medicine dollars spent to support research, has oversight of core facilities and shared resources, promotes interdisciplinary research between basic and clinical departments, and fosters an increase in external funding of research programs, improvement in research infrastructure, and provides the administration and management of grants/contracts for the Brody School of Medicine.

Job Duties :

Working in conjunction with the Associate Dean the Research Manager will be responsible for the following:


  • facilitates the development of new research programs for the Brody School of Medicine;
  • manages new and existing Research Programs such as BSOM research newsletter;
  • coordinates and manages RGS seminar series including but not restricted to Research Resources 101 & the Clinical Trials Office What’s Under the Hood series;
  • develops written reports & announcements for dissemination to key stakeholders
  • maintains research listservs and communicates research-related information to BSOM faculty and staff via listservs and emails
  • works with other administrators in research offices on the development and implementation of school policies and regulations to ensure and maintain compliance with external sponsors and regulatory agencies;
  • monitors sponsored programs indirect and direct fund usage in the school;
  • administers the research reporting and national ranking function of the BSOM, promoting the research function to faculty;
  • interprets, analyzes, and presents data to a variety of audiences;
  • interfaces with multiple levels of the organization and external entities to discuss services and technology related to Research Programs;
  • establishes and maintains collaborative relationship with administrators, faculty, and staff to advise, facilitate, and/or train in the essential elements of research programs;
  • works with the RGS-Clinical Trials Office and other campus offices to ensure research program compliance with government regulations, University policies, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, and;
  • assists the ADR in the preparation of regulatory and financial reports.

Minimum Education/Experience :

Master’s degree in accounting, business administration, research administration, public health administration, public communications or another related area or a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, public communications or another related area and 5 years of demonstrated academic/research project management experience in a University environment. Demonstrated experience in University programs coordination; excellent working knowledge with MS Office/TEAMS and Zoom/WebEx

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

CPA or CRA certification
