Research Assistant for Pharmacology & Physiology - Georgetown University Medical Center
The Brelidze Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at Georgetown University Medical Center studies regulatory mechanisms of ion channels with a variety of methods, including electrophysiology and biochemistry. Ion channels are essential for the regulation of cellular excitability and defects in ion channel function are associated with numerous diseases.
The Research Assistant role offers a great opportunity to learn various methods and to participate in the research that can impact future clinical treatments and is well suited to a motivated recent graduate who wants to gain a wet lab experience. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, and engaging with postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in the lab, the Research Assistant has duties that include but are not limited to:
- Perform standard molecular biology and biochemistry, including plasmid amplification, subcloning, molecular mutagenesis, PCR, and protein expression and purification
- Conduct two-electrode voltage clamp electrophysiology experiments
- Maintain lab records
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the research activities in the lab
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in the life sciences
- Experience in molecular biology and protein purification
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
Preferred qualification
Willingness to commit to two years in the position
