Director of Disability Services, Office of the Dean of Students - Georgetown University Law Center

The nation's largest single campus law school, Georgetown University Law Center enrolls more than 2,600 students each year, from around the country and around the world. Consistent with its longstanding mission to educate the whole person and further academic excellence, the Law Center is committed to ensuring equal opportunity in all of its educational programs and services. Central to that mission, its Office of Disability Services works in close partnership with Law Center faculty, staff and students to create environments that are accessible and inclusive for individuals with disabilities.

The Director of Disability Services (DDS) ensures that the many JD and LLM students with physical, learning, mental health, attention and/or other disabilities are granted reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable local and federal law. To facilitate this objective, the DDS works with enrolled students to determine and facilitate appropriate accommodations based on supporting clinical and other documentation. The Director also promotes inclusive practices through universal design across all the school's academic and co-curricular functions. Reporting to the Law Center's Associate Vice President/Dean of Students, and supervising the Assistant Director of Disability Services and Wellness Promotion, as well as dozens of temporary employees (e.g., exam proctors) throughout the year and most extensively during the exam periods, the DDS has duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate closely with the school's more than 700 faculty as well as staff and other university partners as appropriate to ensure students receive reasonable accommodations
  • Provide information and advice regarding applying for Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) and bar accommodations

  • Coordinate with Office of University Counsel, Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), health care providers, facilities and information services staff, and other university and community resources as appropriate
  • Collaborate with Law Center faculty, academic advisors, and other staff to address cross-cutting student needs and concerns, interpret policies, mediate complex and sensitive issues, and develop and implement universal design and campus accessibility best practices
  • Participate in Dean of Students leadership cabinet and collaborate with the Dean of Students' leadership team on student affairs programs and departmental strategic plans

Accommodated Testing Management
  • In regular consultation with the Office of the Registrar, manage and implement accommodated exam administration for hundreds of students annually (scheduling, manage proctoring, tracking data and providing health emergency management response)
  • Regularly test and update exam scheduling platform

Management and Administration
  • Supervise full-time Assistant Director of Disability Services and Wellness, including supervision of individual student cases and the development and implementation of wellness promotion programs and education campaigns for all community members
  • Maintain all disability files for students registered with the office
  • Oversee disability-related programming, including staff and faculty education, assistive technology workstations, and career development programming for students with disabilities
  • Develop online and print publications and communications about the Law Center's disability services
  • Oversee the ODS budget, including monthly/annual reconciliation and strategic budget planning
