Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking an Assistant Director of Marketing & Game Presentation.

Responsibilities

Overview:

This position is responsible for developing and executing marketing and in game productions plans for assigned sports teams and other events, which includes developing marketing/fan engagement plans and working with other units (e.g. tickets sales, creative services, events management, facilities, etc.) to ensure that all logistics for events are taken care of. The Marketing department is responsible for helping the department hit revenue goals through ticket sales and fan attendance at events. This position reports to the Assistant AD for Marketing and will help with the overall direction of the unit and the supervision of student employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement marketing and in game production plans for assigned teams, which may include Men's Basketball and up to two other sports.
  • Serve as director of shows for games and developing promotions (i.e. giveaways, theme nights, etc.) and fan engagement strategies to help drive attendance and achieve department revenue goals.
  • Coordinate with Athletic Communications unit on designing marketing and advertising campaigns for assigned sports.
  • Develops and manages the on-campus marketing strategy and activation. Work closely with Ticket Sales to increase student season ticket/pass holders to over 5,000 total.
  • Work with Assistant AD of Marketing to develop advertising and promotional campaigns to promote awareness of events and help achieve department revenue goals.
  • Work with Director of Digital Media to promote athletic events.
  • Manage marketing budgets for assigned programs. Assist Assistant AD with overall budget development every year.
  • Recruit, train and lead a team of student employees to manage promotional events at Football, Basketball, and Volleyball games.
  • Develop Marketing plans for other sports to be executed and managed by student employees.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent training/experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a marketing professional.
  • Previous experience serving as a “Director of Show” or leading the game presentation for a college athletics program.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and quickly discern complex and competing interests.
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, problem resolution and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the campus and with external constituencies.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and with quick timeframes to deliver outcomes towards goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, and execution.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Publisher, and Word.
  • Graphic design skills, including ability to proficiently use Adobe Photoshop.
  • Experience managing a department or unit budget and staying within budget constraints.
  • Knowledge of the athletics environment including relevant issues including ticket sales, merchandising, revenue generation, and/or direct appeals within an athletics department and/or higher education or a corporate environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with a Division 1, Power 5 Marketing unit.
  • Working knowledge of the institution, its mission, vision, goals, achievements, policies, and infrastructure preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable NCAA and Pac-12 Conference rules and regulations.
  • Previous management experience, including leading or directing a unit or department.
