Position Summary:

Founded in 1979, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is an independent professional graduate school with a dynamic student body and a professionally accomplished faculty. Our curriculum and training opportunities prepare graduates to deliver outstanding professional services emphasizing the ability to understand and work with diverse populations. We are currently searching for a full time Department Faculty of the Clinical Psychology PsyD program located on the campus of Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. Specific duties for these New Orleans based positions include teaching at a graduate level in various subjects that include the Department’s four orientations of Cognitive-Behavioral, Humanistic-Existential, Psychodynamic, and Systems. Faculty members also teach courses in Assessment, Research Methods/Statistics, and in concentration areas that include Child/Adolescent, Forensics, Neuropsychology, Health Psychology, and Creative and Expressive Arts. Finally, the ability to mentor a diverse student body, utilize technology/varied educational methods, and support student scholarship are important qualities.

The Clinical Psychology PsyD Program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana (TCSPP-XULA) in New Orleans is in its 6th year, received APA accreditation in July 2019, and graduated its first students in August of 2020. The program is unique in a number of ways including its affiliation with and location on the campus of the only Catholic Historically Black University in the country. The program is comprised of an incredibly and uniquely diverse, values-driven body of students who are invested in making a meaningful contribution to the mental health of their community. The program is also relatively small for a PsyD program with a current total student body of 44 students, two full-time administrative staff, 3 full-time faculty member, and one half-time faculty member. The program’s size and composition has allowed for a small close-knit community focused on the success of the students and the health of the community.

Principle Duties:

• Teach doctoral-level clinical psychology courses to students in the Clinical PsyD. Program; provide ongoing advising, chair dissertations, assist with admissions, and serve on departmental, campus as well as institutional committees

• Maintain active scholarship

• Integrate technology into classroom instruction

• Mentor a diverse student body on issues pertaining to their academic, clinical, professional, and scholarship development

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Previous teaching experience (3 years preferred);

• Exemplary professional experience;

• Engagement in research and scholarship (preferred).

Position Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited institution

• Three to five years of teaching and clinical experience

• Strong commitment to academic excellence, community service, diversity and social justice.

• Area of expertise is open but preference will be given to candidates with qualifications in one or more the following areas: research methods and statistics, a range of psychotherapy intervention approaches (e.g., existential/humanistic, psychodynamic), forensic psychology, lifespan development, testing and assessment

• Clinical and research expertise working with adults, children, and/or families

• Familiarity with prevailing learning platforms (e.g., Canvas)
