Reporting to the Facilities Trades Supervisor, the incumbent will participate in necessary maintenance and improvement activities such as: electrical, carpentry, pluming, HVAC, roofing, masonry, painting, dry wall, flooring, locksmith duties, and other equipment and mechanical repairs
Under limited supervision performs a variety of general maintenance, renovation, repairs, and construction on campus buildings or campus grounds. Must be capable of identifying problems, coordinating activities with other trades, and performing the work as defined. Must be willing to work on an as-needed basis during emergencies.
- Maintains and assures preventive maintenance on all college campus equipment
- Responsible to inspect, review and evaluate the cleanliness of the facilities
- Coordinate with department supervisors to ensure that custodial and event set up functions have adequate coverage for day, evening, and weekend use
- Monitors and maintains proper inventory of supplies, materials and equipment for the campus
Any combination of experience equivalent to an Associates degree and progressively responsible work experience performing related duties
- Experience in the building construction/maintenance trades
- Ability to operate all equipment and tools associated with construction/renovation projects
- Familiarity with OSHA's Construction Standards and ability to work within the parameters of OSHA
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications, operations and maintenance manuals and construction drawings
- Ability to work in an environment which promotes teamwork and strong work ethics
- Ability to lift 25 pounds continuously/daily, 50 pounds occasionally, and team lift items over 50 pounds as required
- Knowledge and ability of maintenance and custodial methods, techniques, supplies, materials and equipment utilized
- Ability to proficiently read blueprints and specification manuals
- Experience operating trucks, vans, forklifts, scissor lifts, backhoes, skid loaders, and other facilities related equipment and tools
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing using tact and courtesy
- Ability to deal effectively with workloads and deadlines
- Ability to develop effective team relationships with supervisors, co-workers, staff and the public to accomplish daily job requirements
- Ability to work independently
- Perform work or deliver a wide variety of items to different addresses and through different routes via loading, unloading and operation of a YC vehicle
- Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment
- Ability to be flexible and work in an environment where emergencies might change daily priorities
- Ability to perform general maintenance, renovation and repair in the following trades: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, sheet metal, masonry and painting
- Ability to keep accurate work orders and time cards to define work accomplished
- Six years experience in the building construction/maintenance trades
- Ability to provide professionalism in all representations of the college and community
- Ability to life 50 pounds on a repeated basis if necessary
- Must possess a valid driver's license
